چکیده

Learning Goals ¯ Understand motivation and concepts of randomised systematic search (RSS) and stochastic tree search (STS). ¯ Understand randomisation and restart mechanisms for RSS. ¯ Know about characteristic RSS behaviour, in particular " heavy-tailed " run-time and search cost distributions.

Reactive Dynamic Local Search algorithms for the Satisfiability Problem CPSC 532D Course Project Proposal

Stochastic Local Search (SLS) algorithms are of interest to a large number of research areas as well as business applications because they constitute some of the current best approaches to efficiently solve hard (NP-complete) combinatorial problems approximatively [1]. Satisfiability (SAT) problems, forming one of the most prominent type of NP-complete problems, are especially suitable for the ...

Consistency Modifications for Automatically Tuned Monte-Carlo Tree Search

Monte-Carlo Tree Search algorithms (MCTS [4, 6]), including upper confidence trees (UCT [9]), are known for their impressive ability in high dimensional control problems. Whilst the main testbed is the game of Go, there are increasingly many applications [13, 12, 7]; these algorithms are now widely accepted as strong candidates for highdimensional control applications. Unfortunately, it is know...

Verified Analysis of Random Trees

This work is a case study of the formal verification and complexity analysis of some famous probabilistic algorithms and data structures in the proof assistant Isabelle/HOL: the expected number of comparisons in randomised quicksort, the relationship between randomised quicksort and average-case deterministic quicksort, the expected shape of an unbalanced random Binary Search Tree, and the expe...

A Tree.Trellis Based Fast Search for Finding the N Best Sentence Hypotheses in Continuous Speech Recognition

In this paper a new, tree-trellis based fast search for finding the N best sentence hypotheses in continuous speech recognition is proposed. The search consists of two parts: a forward, time-synchronous, trellis search and a backward, time asynchronous, tree search. In the first module the well known Viterbi algorithm is used for finding the best hypothesis and for preparing a map of all partia...

Randomised Evaluations in Single-Agent Search

Most game playing programs are based on heuristic game tree search: the nodes at distance t from the root are evaluated by a heuristic evaluation function, and these values are backed up to the root by minimaxing. Following an old investigation by Beal and Smith [1], we discuss depth-t search with randomised evaluation functions: the heuristic leaf evaluations are artificially randomised before...
